The Journal

The Journal.

What we are seeing inside UK businesses, and what to do about it. Field notes from the work, and the occasional piece from the desk.

Why I started Cordial

The honest version of why Cordial Advisory exists. From a first job in recruitment, through years at Audley and David Harber, to a kitchen table conversation with my partner about leaving a Managing Director role to start something of our own. An essay about work, family, and one recurring observation about good people not getting the time to do their best work.

Lean has a branding problem

The reason lean has stalled in a lot of small businesses is not the thinking. It is the overhead. Proper lean work takes time to observe a process, time to document it, and time to test a change. Owner-operators running a £2m business do not have a spare afternoon a week for that.
